Alana practices exclusively in the area of bankruptcy and insolvency, including corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, receiverships and enforcement of creditors' rights and remedies. Alana joined the insolvency group upon the completion of her articles at TGF.
REPRESENTATIVE WORK
- Assisted senior counsel to Ernst & Young, court-appointed monitor in the restructuring of the Canadian AbitibiBowater entities
- Supported counsel to the Fraser Papers group of companies in its CCAA proceedings with respect to claims issues
- Participated in litigation team as counsel to the Chief Restructuring Advisor of Canwest Media Inc. in respect of certain CCAA claims
- Represents financial institutions with respect to security enforcement, priority disputes and forbearance agreements
While at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law, Alana was a leading researcher for Professor Richard McLaren, and assisted in editing his publications Secured Transactions in Canada, the Annotated Ontario Personal Property Security Act and Canadian Commercial Reorganization. Alana also assisted Professor McLaren with his work as a sports arbitrator and acted as the lead editor for his publication Innovative Dispute Resolution: The Alternative. Alana coordinated TGF's participation in the 2009 Daily Bread Food Bank Law Firm Challenge, in which the firm placed for most funds raised per capita.
Alana is a member of The Advocates' Society, INSOL International, the Turnaround Management Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association, Insolvency Section.
